Meet Amanda – early 20’s

Please press play and listen to the music while you read.  Thank you!

i enjoy hearing about people’s tattoo stories, so living in Austin is a great place for me if…if i ever step out of my comfort zone and start talking to the people i see.  i decided to take my first step New Years day while waiting for a table at Kerbey Lane Cafe on Guadalupe near the north side of the UT campus, (which is my favorite place to watch people.)

Walking out of the cafe with our little blinking buzzing disc, i passed this girl.

Amanda was waiting for a table with her husband of 6 months, but what caught my attention was the tattoos on both of her feet.  The tattoo on her right foot was the dance steps to the Rumba and on the left foot was scripted “Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing.”  In my totally smooth and nonchalant awkward fashion i asked her if i could hear the story.  With only a little hesitation she told it was the lyrics to a song that was played at her wedding by the Magnetic Fields.  With a little laugh she also told me that these shoes were her wedding shoes.

These dance steps and lyrics are a beautiful way to remember that special day in Amanda’s life, but more importantly the “why” for that day. I don’t know if i will ever see her or her husband again, but i wish the best for them.

How beautiful. My brother in law is getting a song (the notes) from their wedding tattooed as a sleeve on his arm.

I am in love with this. Thanks for sharing the story.
